Our honey is tested for 150+ markers to identify any pesticides, most brands don't even think about doing that.
Antibiotics are generally banned for use in New Zealand. Most beekeepers follow good bee keeping practices that negate the requirement for use of any antibiotics for pest control. Also, the use of pesticides in New Zealand is very negligible. We at Zealandia honey procure honey only from the best. We have a set of quality parameters that the honey must meet before we can buy it for packing.
To ensure consumer safety Zealandia Honey takes the following steps;
- Zealandia Honey routinely tests for glyphosate residues as part of our monitoring programme which ensures all honey entering our packing facility, and leaving as finished batches, are of the highest quality and food safety.
- As part of this programme we routinely test for glyphosate residues in the honey during multiple stages of the production process.
- Our results show that Zealandia Honey exceeds all food safety requirements, with zero to minimal-detection rates of glyphosates and four standards far outweigh the stringent European Limit (0.05 mg/kg), and the New Zealand Limit for Glyphosate residue (0.1 mg/kg).
To put the Limits into perspective, someone weighing 80 kilograms would need to consume 800 kilograms of honey a day, containing 0.05 mg/kg of glyphosate residue (the European limit), to exceed the acceptable level of glyphosate intake in Europe (1600kg/day of honey in NZ).
